Transportation
Overview
The Bennington County Regional Commission (BCRC) is committed to promoting, facilitating, and practicing transportation planning for the benefit of the region. Regional Planning Commissions (RPC’s) wear many hats and provide a wide range of planning services, one of which being transportation planning. Typically RPC’s are the first stop for local officials who have questions about transportation planning, or need assistance with transportation planning issues. The RPC employs professional transportation planning staff to assist with these inquiries.
Generally, the RPC takes a more regional view of transportation issues. This view in no way undermines the importance of local transportation issues. All local transportation issues affect the region as a whole, and should be mitigated to improve regional transportation functionality. To continue, it is the entirety of the local transportation system feeders and infrastructure that make the regional transportation system (rail , highway, transit, etc. ) function as best as possible.
Transportation Planning Initiative
The Vermont Transportation Planning Initiative (TPI) is facilitated by VTrans and is carried out through coordination with the twelve Regional Planning Commissions, including the BCRC, and the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization. The VTrans coordinators and these organizations solicit local input, identify needs, develop regional transportation plans and transportation improvement programs and provide planning capacity to the VTrans on an ongoing basis.
